Hi! My name is Brad MacMillan and I am the owner and operator of Brad in YYC Photos. It&rsquo;s nice to meet you! Born in BC and raised in small town Alberta, growing up I learned a great deal about life from the people around me. How to be kind to others and the importance of treating people the way I would want to be treated were important lessons I picked up on quickly. I bring this approach with me to the start of every session. I want to treat you as if you were one of my neighbours in my small town, because that&rsquo;s how I view my sessions. You&rsquo;re visiting my small town, and I'm happy you're here. Ever since I first got my hands on my mom&rsquo;s camera in grade 9 I&rsquo;ve been passionate about photography. From school trips to Ontario to visiting my parents on the east cost to fighting wildland fires from a helicopter, I&rsquo;m rarely without a camera.

My photography career began in landscapes, I enjoyed how they allowed me to look at a scene as a whole and decide how best to tell a story. I eventually moved on to portraits and discovered how much I loved capturing candid shots. When a photo shows full, genuine emotion that instantly connects the viewer with the moment it&rsquo;s something special. I have invested in some of the best portrait lenses available so I can capture all the smiles, all the tears, all the little details that make a memory worth remembering. When I&rsquo;m not photographing weddings or editing images you&rsquo;re likely to find me hiking in the mountains or diving in a lake. I like to keep myself busy. I often pick up an extra job just to fill my time. From working construction to driving a tow truck to fire fighting, I&rsquo;m always willing to try something new. I actually enjoy hard work and long days. I&rsquo;m simple and I like it like that. No need to make things complicated. I do whatever it takes to get the job done, and I love it. I have no quite in me.

Thank you so much for spending the afternoon with our family and for taking such wonderful and artistic pictures ! Despite the weather, we had a lot fun! You certainly know how to put our little ones at ease, and made it so much fun for them. The photos and the video are really good. We really appreciate your speedy delivery of the digital photos. We certainly look forward to working with you again in the near future. Thank you again for your help in creating a happy memory for our family.

My husband and I were lucky enough to have brad be our photographer on our wedding day. From the smallest details to the largest ones he had everything covered, really going out of his way to get the best shots. His passion for photography really shines through!!! The best part about the whole experience was how much fun we had… my husband is not much for photos but Brad was making him smile and laugh with his jokes and amazing personality, I never would have thought hours of photos would be so much fun and the best part is that we have proof…. Brad captured every smile, all the laughter and love that we were experiencing that day more than we could have hoped.

I was approached by my good friend Brandon to help photograph a wedding for our mutual friend Jennifer. I was more than delighted to shoot it. Then he told me it would be out by Spray Lakes in Kananaskis and I was ecstatic to shoot it. We had so many ideas!

The intimate wedding was set out at the beautiful Mt. Engadine Lodge just south of Spray Lakes and Canmore on Highway 742. I would use the word highway loosely as there are times of the year you need an all-wheel-drive or 4x4 vehicle to safely navigate this road. Driving a 4x4 truck, I had zero issues getting there. This lodge is a very intimate, low-key lodge with no cell service, on purpose. Its purpose is to get you away from the hustle and bustle of the city and into calm, relaxing nature. They do, however, have WiFi out there; which their password tells you to get out and explore nature. A small tidbit that I thoroughly enjoyed. They've got a few rooms in the actual lodge, but the interesting element that I loved was that they also had some camp-style A-frame "tents" and they also had cabins away from the main lodge. This was my kind of place, for sure! You don't need to pack food or camping supplies though, as they deliver food directly to your room, cabin, or tent every morning and every evening and include a packed picnic-style lunch to take with you, exploring. So, you should definitely check this out if you're looking to get out and do some exploring not too far from Calgary or Canmore and still away from all the busyness. It was a little smoky from the nearby fires in British Columbia, which would actually help give us some beautiful golden hour type light that was well diffused, later on.

The ceremony was small, beautiful, and intimate. Only the couple, parents from both sides, the JP, videographer, and myself, photographing. It was set out on the rear balcony overlooking the valley in the background and looked absolutely stunning. We live-streamed the entire ceremony to their families all over the world and it was well-received! Below are photos from the ceremony and portrait session afterward.
